We have a several customers who want to use XC Mesh/MCN as a way to reduce time and effort to connect apps across large and complex underlay networks. For example one service provider requires 6+ months to deploy a new customer application because of complexity of changing their underlay network.
The use case is mostly around SNAT/NAT and Load Balancing users/apps on one side of the network, through the CE-CE tunnel, to useers/apps on the other side.
XC mesh CEs can address this today, but is not really designed as an L3 networking device, thus has some missing networking "features" as well as some components that are not required for this use case.
BNK/CNF on the other hand is a version of BIG-IP's tmm dataplane process that is fully interworked with k8s control plane. It has robust networking features (BGP, L3 redundancy, IPSec, load balancing) and proven high performance numbers, and even runs on ARM processors.
So the idea is enable XC to deploy and manage Mesh endpoints using our tmms that were designed for BNK/CNF, as an alternative to existing CEs, if the customer only needs networking use cases like the above.
